Joe has worked hard to get results for our seniors. He has always believed we owe a special obligation to them — from the veterans who’ve defended us in war, to the parents and grandparents who have made countless sacrifices to build a better future for our community.
Joe helped create the Gold Alert program, a spin-off of the successful Amber Alert program, which will alert the public if an elderly Alzheimer’s patient or vulnerable adult has gone missing.
In order to financially protect senior citizens, Joe voted to simplify the renewal process for the Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption Program, which implemented a mechanism that will remind seniors enrolled in the program to take the steps for renewal. He also authored legislation to increase absentee ballot voting options for individuals living in nursing homes, ensuring that seniors have a voice in our government.
Joe also fought to save the Woodhaven Senior Center and the Woodhaven Volunteer Ambulance Corp
